Phototroph MKII: award-winning, handbuilt, bulletproof, noisy as can be

"Phototroph is a unique light-controlled electronic instrument at the crossroads between boutique analog synthesizer and interactive performance art installation. True to its name, the Phototroph Synthesizer takes in light and churns out energetic organic sounds. It nurtures new associations—between light and sound, darkness and rhythm, the organic and the artificial—through simple interactions. Anyone can walk up to it, cast shadows and light across its control surface, and hear the complex results of simple motions.

The collaboration of a deterministic electronic brain and a discerning human mind organically generates a range of sounds from syncopated electronic rhythms and melodies to harmonically rich dronings."
